Classical
summer canyoning
Canyoning,
known as canyoneering in the western U.S., is an exciting
activity that was developed by cavers in France and is now
pursued by many outdoor enthusiasts.
Cavers
originally started going down canyons to capture the excitement
of vertical descents in caves, but to savor them in the
basking sun. Small streams are visited by proceeding downstream,
swimming or jumping whenever possible or putting a rope
to rappel vertical falls. Even if the techniques are similar
to those of vertical caving, the acquired experience over
the years and the development performed by experts made
canyoning a truly distinct discipline.

Canyoning
is very different from rock climbing as there is no climbing
involved and the way is always downstream. For example,
rock climbers use dynamic rope that works like an elastic
when a fall occurs; as opposed to canyonists using static
rope that allow safe descent with a better strenght and
abrasion resistance. The thrill of rappelling down many
cascades, separated by sculpted pools of water, is every
canyonist's dream.
From
June to October, Canyoning-Québec's professional
guides will take you to the Jean-Larose Falls for an exhilarating
experience. This unique site is a staircase of three vertical
drops, 12, 19 and 41 meters deep! Equipment is all included.
We
are also offering the opportunity to visit two new sites:
the Vieille Rivière canyon, with a spectacular
scenery and an impressive last waterfall surrounded by mosses;
St-Joseph-de-la-Rive, located on the coast of Charlevoix.

Ice
canyoning
Canyoning-Québec
offers now a winter experience in the Jean-Larose Falls
by simply adapting the summer techniques and knowledge to
ice conditions (with no running water). The result is the
discovery a totally transformed site in a magical season.
We are the only ones to offer Ice-canyoning in North America.
Incredible!
On
February 14, 2008, a natural heart appeared at the bottom
of the great cascade for Valentine's Day!

Outdoor
amateurs will rappel down and enjoy the 41 meter frozen
and dry last drop of Jean-Larose Falls. There is an initiation
clinic to learn the rappelling technique in two easy 20
meters steep slopes before approaching the great drop. It
is important to understand that it is not ice climbing but
descent on ice, an easier and less physical activity, still
with the vertical thrill.
Our
vast summer canyoning experience, since year 2000, has prepared
us to receive true beginners to try out their first descent
on rope. No previous experience on rope is required.
Canyoning-Québec
is also offering a canyoning school for specialized workshops.
